Fenagh St. Caillins made an impressive start to the Leitrim SFC with a 13-point win over Aughawillan.
Captain Ryan O’Rourke stared for Fenagh as they showed impressive prowess in the forward line.
A cagey opening affair, saw Morgan Quinn open the scoring with Fenagh responding through Fergal McLoughlin.
However, the hosts shot to life after eight minutes. Mark Keegan put Fenagh ahead for the first time. Moments later Ryan O’Rourke twisted and turned before setting up Tom Gilheany for the opening goal.
Riordan O’Rourke and Keegan added points to move Fenagh 1-4 to 0-1 ahead on 11 minutes. Stephen Gilheany fired over a much needed Aughawillan point in response.
However, there was no willie’s comeback. Donal Wrynn made it a seven point game. Ryan O’Rourke took full advantage of a poor Colm Maguire restart to rattle home Fenagh’s second goal.
A Wyrnn 45 and points from Fergal and Aaron McLoughlin had Fenagh 2-9 to 0-2 ahead on 26 minutes. The willies responded with four-points in-a-row.
Gilheany and James Plunkett either side of a Noel Plunkett two-pointer. Fenagh’s Aaron McLoughlin got the final score of the half as the hosts cleared a scramble off their line.
Fenagh leading 2-10 to 0-6 at half-time. Daire Maxwell sent over a two-pointer for Aughawillan four minutes after the restart.
While the hosts were relaxed, Oisin McLoughlin responding with their first point of the half. Colm McLoughlin saw a black card, opening the door for the willies.
Fenagh push on
However, they were unable to capitalise. A Jamie Plunkett free and a Tom Plunkett 45 were cancelled out by a Ryan O’Rourke free and point from play.
Tom Plunkett fired home a penalty just as Colm McLoughlin returned to play after Ciaran Gilheany was fouled in the large square.
Indeed it was Fenagh who responded best. Another Ryan O’Rourke free moved Fenagh 2-14 to 1-10 ahead on 49 minutes. Morgan Quinn responded with a point a minute later, before the hosts put the game to bed.
Ryan O’Rourke, Fegal McLoughlin, Riordan O’Rourke, Jack Gilheany Daniel McLoughlin and Owen McLoughlin helped Fenagh to a 2-21 to 1-11 win.
Elsewhere, Glencar Manorhmilton scored a 1-16 to 17-point win over St. Mary’s Kiltoghert and Leitrim Gaels saw off Melvin Gaels 2-20 to 2-8.
On Friday night, Mohill opened their title defence with a three-point win over Ballinamore.
