Clonguish sealed top spot in Longford SFC group B with a 15-point win over Rathcline.
Clonguish will now face Dromard in the Longford quarter-finals with Rathcline to face Carrickedmond as Rathcline were confirmed second place finishers.
Both sides had already booked their quarter-finals place, however it was a conquering Clonguish who made it a 100% record in group B.
Jack Duggan, Andrew Flynn and a Jamie Dorr two-point free set out Clonguish’s intent. Liam Belton’s side led four points to no score ahead after six minutes.
Oran Kenny opened Rathcline’s scoring after nine minutes. However, Clonguish made full use of the wind and the slight downhill pitch.
Duggan and a Michael Flynn free moving Clonguish five clear on 15 minutes. Five minutes later Shane Kenny converted a two-point free, making it a two-point game.
That was as good as it got for Rathcline. A Matthew Carey two-point-free, Cormac Flynn, Chris Gordon and a Michael Flynn free made it 11-points to three at half-time.
Goals reign in
Just 60 seconds of the second-half had elapsed when Clonguish had their first goal. Duggan’s long range shot was spilled by Ratchline keeper David Mulvihill.
James Hagan avoided a tackle to rifle the ball into the net. Peter Hanley and Carey added a two-point free each as Clonguish moved 1-15 to three points clear on 34 minutes.
Oran Kenny sent over Rathcline’s first score of the half, four minutes later and their first score for 18 minutes.
Clonguish struck back immediately like a wounded animal. Substitute Daniel Carey punching the ball to the net after Clonguish had used quick hands to move the ball.
Jack Duggan powered home Clonguish’s third goal on 44 minutes as the game moved into TKO terriority. Clonguish ahead by 20-points with a quarter remaining. 3-15 to 0-4.
Shane Kenny struck back with a well taken goal off a powerful run a minute later.
The game fizzled out as both sides have bigger fish to fry. However, Carey sent over a point for Clonguish, while Oran Kenny fire over two single points.
Kevin Burke put his name on the score sheet with 60 seconds left on the clock. Oran Kenny closed the game out a two-pointed-free.
Clonguish 15-point winners, 3-17 to 1-8. First hurdle cleared, Pearse Park awaits both sides.
