Leitrim fight back not enough for a share of the spoils

Antrim sealed top spot in division four north but it was with thanks to a late, late one point win over Leitrim in Corrigan Park.

Terry Hyland had rang the changes for Leitrim who trailed 1-11 to seven points at the break, but fell just short in a fourth quarter comeback to lose out 2-17 to 1-19.

Antrim found the net through Conor Stewart and Conor Murray helping the hosts to lead 2-14 to nine points early in the second-half.

Evan Sweeney drilled in a 55th-minute goal as Leitrim’s comeback gained momentum with Keith Beirne, Tom Prior, Mark Plunkett a Sweeney point and a point from play from Mark McGovern had tied the game up 1-18 to 2-15.

However substitute Tomas McCann split the posts in the final moment to seal a one point victory for Antrim who progress to the semi-finals as division four north winners.

Leitrim are set to contest the Division four shield where they are scheduled to meet Wexford.
