People are being advised to only bathe in designated areas in the county

A number of people have become ill after swimming at popular waterways in Leitrim in recent days.

Leitrim County Council is warning the public that the Dromod Harbour / Shannon Cove marina is not suitable for swimming and is not a recognised bathing area.

The Council claims that a number of swimmers became ill following bathing there and is advising that the water quality in that area is not suitable for bathing at present.
