Wait times at local hospitals almost double since 2015

The figures were released under freedom of information.

A&E waiting times at hospitals across the Shannonside region have almost doubled since 2015.

New figures from the HSE show the average patient is waiting 13 hours to be admitted to hospital - more than double the HSE's aim of six hours.

Tullamore regional hospital and Galway University Hospital recorded the highest waiting times in the region at 15.6 hours while Mullingar Hospital is increasing year on year at 12.6.

In 2015 Sligo University Hospital had a waiting time of 7.8hours but this has since jumped to 14 in 2021.

The shortest admission time in the region was recorded at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe at just 7 hours.

CEO of the Irish Patients Association Stephen McMahon, says there's a huge variety of wait times in different hospitals.
