More than 250 vacant property refurbishment grants were issued in the Shannonside region during 2025.
In 2022, the government introduced the vacant property refurbishment grant to provide payments of up to €50,000 if a person intends to renovate a vacant house or building to turn into a permanent home or a rental property.
If the refurbishment costs exceed the standard grant of up to €50,000, a top-up grant amount of up to €20,000 is also available.
459 applications were received by Roscommon County Council, with 325 approvals and 119 payments totalling over €6.8 million issued.
In Leitrim, 240 approvals and 92 payments were made out of 321 applications, representing over €4.74 million in funding.
While in Longford saw 219 applications, 172 of which were approved and 63 grants issued just shy of €3.5 million.
Overall, Data from the Department of Housing shows that 3,066 grants were paid out in 2025, a 127% increase from the 1,349 recorded in 2024.
