Martin Lydon is to take up a new role as CE in Sligo

Roscommon's loss has been described as Sligo's gain as a senior Council official moves to a new role in the north-west.

Director of Finance Martin Lydon is quitting Roscommon County Council this Friday to take up the position of  Chief Executive of Sligo County Council.

Paying tribute to the well-liked public servant at his final Council meeting, Chief Executive Eugene Cummins described him as a CE in waiting for many years and that he was leaving with the best wish of everyone in the local authority or anyone who had ever met and dealt with him.
