Three HSE Mental Health Service Training Centres in Roscommon have been helping to modify PPE gowns over the past number of weeks.

The surgical gowns were part of a HSE consignment received from China early on in the Covid pandemic but they couldn't be used by frontline workers here because the sleeves were too short.

Eight training centre instructors at HSE facilities in Roscommon, Castlerea and Boyle have been working to produce new long sleeved gowns, using one short sleeved garment to produce eight more with sleeves of the proper length.

The group have been producing around 250 new usable garments each week since they took initial delivery of the faulty gowns.

Once the sleeves have been extended the gowns are re-folded, re-packed and returned to the National Ambulance Service for use by frontline workers.
