Gardaí in Longford have launched a major investigation after the alleged serious assault of a teenager in Edgeworthstown.
The 17 year suffered serious head injuries and is currently being treated at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. Local Gardaí say the youth was attacked by four assailants at the Edgeworthstown Train Station at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The young man is currently understood to be in a stable condition. The incident took place in front of a number of members of the public and Gardaí are asking for those in the area or anyone who witnessed anything of interest, to contact Longford or Granard Garda Station.
The investigation is continuing and Gardaí are currently examining CCTV footage from the area.
