Success for local groups at Tidy Towns awards

Towns and villages across the Shannonside region were awarded today at the national Tidy Towns Competition.

Abbeyshrule in Longford has also taken a Gold medal in this years competition, with Newtowncashel in second place, and Longford town in third.

Carrick-on-Shannon took the top prize in Leitrim, and also secures a Gold medal, with Dromod close behind in second and Cloone in third.

Keadue is once again the leader in Roscommon taking a Gold medal this year, Castlecoote and Cloontuskert in second and third place, while Roscommon town retains its Gold medal this year.

Killteevan Tidy Towns in Roscommon won this years national Heritage Award.

After the ban of turf cutting, the local group has dedicated its time to reimagining the bogs in the area to a haven for walkers and cyclists.

Chairperson Eileen Fahy says they've put a lot of work into highlighting the biodiversity of the area.
