Ballinahown in Co. Westmeath were named Ireland's tidiest village.

Members of Roscommon's Tidy Towns committee were on hand to receive the award at Riddel Hall in Belfast today.

The Carrick-on-Shannon Ash Tree Conservation Project aims to raise awareness in Counties Leitrim and Roscommon.

Boyle Tidy Towns was awarded 2nd prize in the Town Centre First category, receiving €1,500.

New powers would allow local authorities to utilise body worn cameras, CCTV, and drones.

Councillor Pat O' Toole says the sculpture is a nod to the popularity of the river as a fishing place over the years.

The Leitrim county town took the overall prize in the competition, as well as the title of Best Kept Small Town.
