The Ireland Weather Channel says today's Storm Ellen is on course to be stronger than Extra Tropical Storm Ophelia.

Cathal Nolan says he expects current yellow weather warnings for parts of the Shannonside Northern Sound Region to be upgraded to orange warnings later today.

Storm Ellen is set to pass over the country tonight with an orange warning in place from 9pm for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford and a yellow alert in place for the rest of the country.
