A special event takes place in Strokestown today to extend the hand of friendship to the Ukrainian community living in the area.
The day is being organised by Ger Glennon who is involved in the Park Run.
She says a variety of the groups and organisations will have their stands set up in the community centre from 2pm-4pm.
It's understood almost 50 Ukrainians are living in the Storkestown area and an interpreter will also be there to help with any language barriers.
Ger says all are welcome to attend.
"Im involved in Park run in Strokestown, and we had a number of Ukrainians coming in and really they couldn't have the full benefit of the Park run because they weren't registered and I knew we had a lot of groups in the town. And I thought well you know what, maybe it's time to have a welcome for these people. And if they got to know what was happening in the town they may be able to integrate."
