Residents in the Lough Funshinagh area of south Roscommon are hopeful that works to prevent their homes from being flooded can now proceed unabated.

It's after the High Court rejected on Thursday that the County Council was in contempt of court for initiating a revised flood relief scheme in the area.

Friends of the Irish Environment claimed that it had breached a remediation plan agreed to seal a pipe and manholes and repair areas that were part of a much larger flood relief scheme.
