100 people attend public meeting about future of Lough Ree Power Station

Around 100 people attended a meeting in Lanesboro last night to hear a proposal for the future use of Lough Ree Power Station.

Leitrim businessman JJ O'Hara outlined plans for a national fire testing centre among other projects.

The FutureCast CEO told those in attendance the company had completed a feasibility study.

The ESB remains adamant, however, that the power station will be taken down to make way for a battery storage facility.

Dismantling the station could cost up to €25 million, while FutureCast's proposed refurbishment would cost €20 million.
