Sinn Féin has decided to support Independent candidate Catherine Connolly in the presidential race.
At a meeting held in Dublin today, a proposal from leader Mary Lou McDonald to endorse the Galway-West TD was approved.
It comes after months of uncertainty about Sinn Féin's strategy for the elections, with party leader Ms McDonald ruling herself out of the race.
Catherine Connolly now has the support of Labour, the Social Democrats, People Before Profit, and the Green Party.
