There's been a sharp increase in rat infestations in the Shannonside region.
That's according to Rentokil, Ireland's leading pest control provider.
Statistics published by Rentokill indicate a 13% rise in rat-related activity in the BMW and North West area in January 2026 compared to the same period last year.
It does, however, report 15% decrease in mouse-releated activity in January 2026.
The data covers every county bar Cork, Dublin and Limerick.
Dublin had the most significant increase with a 14% rise in rat-related activity and a 48% increase in mice activity.
Nationally, rat-related activity is down 28.86% while mice is also down, at 10.38%.
