The search for a missing person on the river Shannon in and around Athlone has been stood down.
Athlone Sub-Aqua club say the body of a person was recovered from the river Shannon south of Athlone town at around three o' clock yesterday afternoon, and is extending their sympathy to the family.
The club is also thanking the volunteers who put in over 298 hours of searching over the past 22 days of the search operation, and the public for their kind words and support.
