Roscommon solicitors meet with TDs over new legal aid fee structure

More than a hundred solicitors have resigned from the free legal aid panel in protest at the move.

Criminal law solicitors practising in Roscommon met with two local TD's yesterday over the new fee structure for free legal aid.
More than a hundred solicitors have resigned from the free legal aid panel in protest at the move.
It sees a set €520 fee given for District Court work as opposed to the old system, where there was a €240 fee plus €60 for every further court appearance.

Criminal law solicitors in Roscommon met with Sinn Féin TD Claire Kerrane and Independent Ireland's Michael Fitzmaurice at Leinster House yesterday to raise urgent concerns about the new model.
The solicitors used the meeting with the local TDs to ask them to raise the matter directly with the Minister for Justice.
However, Jim O'Callaghan said earlier this week he won't be revising the changes.
