Councillor Fitzmaurice says he gets phone calls from people who have no water supply but who haven't been contacted by Irish Water to let them know it was going to happen

A Roscommon councillor is calling on Irish Water to properly communicate with people over water outages.

Speaking at this weeks' monthly meeting of the local authority Councillor Pascal Fitzmaurice said that even when there is a planned water outage, Irish Water only post it on their own website.

He says the company needs to have a much better communications policy to let people know what is happening.

The Fianna Fail councillor says he doesn't understand why Irish Water doesn't utilise the MapAlerter system that most councils use to bring urgent news to people in the local areas.
