Eugene Cummins says Roscommon will be left behind if change isn't embraced

The Chief Executive of Roscommon County Council says he hopes that everyone in Roscommon town will embrace the creation of new town centre and shared public spaces.

Eugene Cummins is welcoming 9.2 million euro in funding for the public realm scheme, which will involve the creation of a new Civic Square as well as linking a new Linear Park on the Circular Road to Main Street.

The project will also activate the backlands of Main Street through pedestrian links for town centre living and develop opportunities in the brownfield sites of Henry Street and Church Street.

A key component will also create pedestrian and cycle routes to create a low-carbon transport county town.

Eugene Cummins says it's about not being left behind when many other towns are embracing a new future.
