Rise in the number of local people hospitalised with Covid in last seven days

Most local hospitals have recorded slight rises in their Covid.

Sixteen further people have been hospitalised in the Shannonside northern Sound region with Covid 19 in the last week.

The largest increase in patients was recorded at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda in the last seven days.

The Cabinet Sub Committee on Covid 19 will meet this evening to discuss what measures may be needed to cope with the escalating cases.

The latest hospital figures for local hospitals show that local hospitals are coming under increased pressure for people presenting with covid-19 and requiring treatment.

Mullingar has recorded an increase of two patients in the last week- bringing its total on a Covid ward to 29- while Galway university hospital has seen its admission decrease by five to 27.

Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe is also feeling the effects of the latest Covid surge - with six extra patients compared to Monday of last week.

Sligo, Tullamore and Cavan hospital have also recorded a small increase in their Covid admissions.

Nine people with Covid are in ICU of Drogheda hospital - with five in Mullingar - and three in Sligo Hospital.

Nationally a total of 106 people are in ICU.
