Locals raised environmental concerns over the possible impact of the development

Roscommon planners have refused permission for a new 30m telecommunications mast at Ballymoe in Roscommon.

Vodafone Ireland Ltd had applied for the demolition of an existing 10 metres telecommunications support structure on the L6404 at Dundermot and the construction of a 30-metre replacement.

The new mast would have carried relocated existing antenna and additional antennas, dishes, associated equipment together with ground-based equipment.

The development was the subject of several submissions from locals and other telecommunication companies including Cignal limited who stated they operate an existing structure in the townland.

Local objections to the mast included concerns the height of the mast would spoil the views of the surrounding countryside and the effect the structure would have on local wildlife.

Roscommon County planners refused planning permission earlier this week.
