Planning permission is being sought for a temporary library in Ballaghaderreen. The town's main library has been shut for a number of years due to the need for essential works. The Library at Dillon house will open in the third quarter of next year but locals have stressed that the process has taken too long. It's thought the final works on the listed building will take up to 32 weeks to complete.

Roscommon County Council have confirmed that project will go out to tender before Christmas with a contractor set to be appointed in early 2024. A temporary library is to be opened in the town in the former Tusla office in Ballaghaderreen, with part 8 planning permission submitted last week. A mobile library service has also been provided by the local authority over the course of the closure.
