A planning application for over four hundred new homes in the Athlone area has been lodged with An Bord Pleanala.
Castlestar (Athlone) Limited are hoping to use a fast-tracking process for plans to develop 426 residential units, including 237 houses and 189 apartments as well as a crèche and associated site works.
The application has been lodged with the planning appeals board as part of the Strategic Housing Development process and the development is based on a 15 hectare site within the townlands of Cornamagh, Clonbrusk and Coosan

The development is also hoping to include the construction of a 430m section of a new distributor road linking Coosan and Cornamaddy.
A decision is due on the application by the 27th of October.
