Permission is being sought for the opening of a major sports retail store at an Athlone Shopping centre.
Hurley Property ICAV is seeking to amalgamate 5 units over two levels at the Athlone Town Centre to open a new Sports Direct store.
The brand is one of Europe's biggest sports retailers, operating 715 stores under their parent company Fraisers Group.
Units 5,6,7,8 and 9 are proposed to be used for the store with internal works such as the filling in of existing voids and the change of use of one unit from restaurant to staff canteen, office-admin and storage areas.
According to the applicant in the document's submitted to Westmeath County Council, the opening of the store would further increase the viability of Athlone Town Centre.
County planners will decide on the application in October.
