Mullingar hospital is the busiest local hospital with Covid patients in special wards today

54 people are undergoing treatment for confirmed and suspected cases of Covid-19 at hospitals across the Shannonside Northern Sound Region.

According to the HSE, just 4 of these cases are being treated in critical care units.

Midlands regional hospital Mullingar is treating the highest number of cases locally today with 9 confirmed cases and 7 suspected cases of the virus receiving care.

There are 8 people with confirmed cases of the virus undergoing treatment at Cavan General Hospital along with 5 suspected cases.

In Tullamore, 10 people have been admitted for suspected or confirmed cases of the virus, with 2 of these in the hospital's intensive care unit.

That's matched with UHG with 6 confirmed and 4 suspected cases, two of these also in critical care units.

Elsewhere in the region, Sligo university hospital is dealing with 4 suspected cases and one confirmed case, while Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe has no Covid patients admitted currently.

Nationally, the number of people in hospital with Covid-19 has dropped by 13 percent in the past week, with 227 patients are receiving treatment in hospital, while 50 are in ICU.
