There were over 800 short-term lets across the Shannonside region last year. It's an average of 22 per cent increase on 2022. Figures revealed by the Minister for Tourism Peter Burke show there was an average increase of 22.6 per cent in short-term rentals across the region since 2022. In 2025, there were 420 rentals in Leitrim, 330 in Roscommon, and 110 in Longford - a total of 860. Of these, 590 were categorised as 'house apartments.'
The county with the highest increase of short term lets since 2022 was Roscommon, up by 32 per cent. This comes following a Threshold report which found there were over 12 times as many short-term lets in Co. Leitrim than for long-term rental use. A new short-term let register is set to come into place on 20 May, requiring all short-term lets to be registered with Fáilte Ireland to comply with EU regulations.
