The NCBI is trying to encourage people to be more aware of obstacles on roads and footpaths.

Just three fines for dog fouling have been issued by local authorities in the Shannonside Northern Sound Region in the last year according to new research from the NCBI.

The National Council for the Blind Ireland is highlighting the low enforcement of The Litter Pollution Act when it comes to dog poo as part of a new awareness campaign.

The 'Clear Our Paths' Campaign is a drive to educate people on the implications that temporary obstacles such as dog fouling, car parking on footpaths or wheelie bins can have on people with sight loss.

According to figures obtained by the NCBI from Local Authorities nationwide, both Cavan and Leitrim recorded no fines issued over dog fouling in 2020.

While Longford, Monaghan and Roscommon each issued just one fine for the littering in the same period.

As part of the campaign, the National Council for the Blind Ireland are encouraging the public to be mindful any obstacles and remove them to ensure footpaths are safe and clean.
