Councillor John Cummins has been elected Cathaoirleach of the Boyle Municipal District.
He was chosen by fellow Councillors at a meeting of the MD earlier today.
Meanwhile, Councillor John Naughten is the new chair of the Athlone MD.
Taking on the position for the first time he hopes to deliver on a number of road projects including the N61 and the R362 near Cloonakilla National School.
The Fine Gael representatives also wants to find a solution for the residents around Lough Funshinagh.
''I'm looking forward to a busy and challenging year working to represent the people of the area and municipal district highlighting the issues of relevance to the residents and ensuring that we secure adequate funding to deliver on different projects in the local area.''
