There are new calls for the planned route for the bypass of the Carrick-on-Shannon to be scrapped.

The project is currently at design stage and a 5.8km route has been selected, going from the Dublin Road to the Boyle Road.

It's hoped the N4 upgrade will go to planning next January and open around 2030.

An upgrade of the N5 between Ballaghaderreen and Scramogue is currently under construction.

Local Fianna Fáil councillor Paddy Farrell believes this could be linked to Carrick - instead of the planned bypass.

The planned bypass would go right in front of Michael McManus's home and business - the Spa Cottage Organic Farm on the Dublin Road.

Mr Manus, who is running as an Independent in the local elections, completely opposes the chosen route.
