There's concern among older people who had used the service at Arus Carolan for the past several years and who're now being told that they will have to travel to Ballinamore when it re-opens in September

Day care services moving from Mohill to Ballinamore this autumn has been described as a "huge and dramatic change" for many elderly people in south Leitrim.

The HSE confirmed to Shannonside Northern Sound last week that due to concerns over requirements for infection control and prevention, the day care service operated at Arus Carolan will now transfer to the Primary Care Centre in Ballinamore.

Concerns have been expressed that many elderly people living within a few miles of the Mohill centre will lose out on the day service as they may not be able to travel the twenty mile round trip to access services in Ballinamore each week.

It's not expected that any day care services will be provided until September at the earliest due to the pandemic, and Councillor Thomas Mulligan is hopeful that the time will give the HSE a chance to upgrade the Mohill facility.
