Longford Fianna Fail Deputy Joe Flaherty is urging Minister Eamon Ryan to seriously consider Lanesboro and Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre as a possible location for a new visitor centre and peatlands centre of excellence.

The new €10 million euro scheme announced by the Minister will provide a new peatlands knowledge centre of excellence, a visitor's centre, and a range of supports for sustainable businesses as part of a new project funded by the European Commission.

Deputy Flaherty says that with the Lanesboro and south Longford areas having been so heavily dependent on Bord Na Mona, it makes senses that this kind of centre and project would help mitigate the losses which will be felt in the local economy.
