A memorial bench will be unveiled in Longford later today in honour of late community champion Mike Prunty. Longford County Council will host the ceremony at Corn Hill in Drumlish at 4 o'clock. Mr Prunty, who passed away last December, served as President of the Longford Association in Greater New York for the longest period in its 133-year history.
He also held roles as an Officer of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and as President of the United Irish Counties. He was born in Ballincurry, Drumlish in 1940 and emigrated to New York in 1959.
