Tánaiste Micheál Martin visited Lough Funshinagh yesterday and met residents impacted by the flooding in Ballagh, Rahara and Curraghboy.

The visit follows a private meeting on Sunday between the Taoiseach and members of the community affected by the rising waters

Works to install an overflow pipe at Lough Funshinagh will not commence until next year at the earliest, according to OPW Minister Kieran O'Donnell.

OPW Minister Kieran O'Donnell has indicated a permanent solution to the Lough Funshinagh crisis, involving an overflow pipe, won't be in place until next year.

The Minister met with a number of local residents before addressing a meeting at Roscommon County Council yesterday.

Minister for the OPW Kieran O'Donnell confirmed the news to local residents during a visit to South Roscommon this afternoon.

There are hopes the government will soon announce plans for water to be removed from the area through an underground pipe.

It comes as an environmental group accused him of 'encroaching on the functions of the courts'.
