There's relief among farmers and residents in the Lough Funshinagh area of south county Roscommon today with the announcement that a permanent solution is to be provided to alleviate flooding.

A Ballagh resident in south Roscommon says the announcement that work is to begin to permanently solve his home being flooded is like winning the lotto.

Pairic Beattie is one of a number of residents whose house is under threat of flooding this winter from Lough Funshinagh even if ongoing water pumping continues.

Recent reports and hydrological updates provided to Roscommon CEO Eugene Cummins has resulted in his decision to expedite the installation of a pipe from the lake, on emergency grounds.
