A Longford economist is urging the government to focus on select areas of focus in next month's Budget.

The Finance minister and civil servants are currently in the midst of collecting data on how to best frame Budget 2022 in light of the pandemic and various economic challenges facing the country.

Earlier this week IBEC published it's pre-budget submission, urging the government to focus on childcare as well as a greater focus on increase investment into research and development.

Longford native Ger Brady is chief economist with the business advisory group.

He says because the purse strings will be tight - the government needs to be very clear on its priorities:
