Local TD hopeful of affordable housing for Longford under government plans

Longford FF TD Joe Flaherty is hopeful that Longford town will be able to provide affordable housing under the government housing plans.

There was widespread concern that the county wouldn't be eligible under the government criteria, but the Housing Delivery Unit has not written to Longford Council inviting them, to make a submission for Longford town.

Prices for houses in the town have increased significantly in recent years and Deputy Flaherty says many young couples can't afford to get a foot on the property ladder.

He says the idea is to provide houses first in Longford town where demand is greatest, and then try to have it replicated in other parts of the county.
