A local TD is calling for a popular Roscommon amenity to be reopened.
A petition was started yesterday by Roscommon-Galway TD Claire Kerrane seeking urgent funding from the Department of Equality to reopen the Ballaghaderreen Swimming Pool.
The petition has received over 700 signatures and is approaching it's target of 800.
Deputy Kerrane says the people of Ballaghaderreen are united behind getting the pool reopened and funding needs to be allocated to achieve this.
'The pool is really important and it has become a really important resource in the town for young and old.
I am going to be using the petition as it grows and we will continue to grow to make that case to the Minister.
I want to see the funding secured to reopen the pool it is absolutely essential and I think it is the very least what the people of Ballaghaderreen deserve.
We are not going to lie down and allow another amenity to be lost in the town .'
