Local Senator reacts as man sentenced over threats to family

A victim impact statement from Senator previously described how the messages left him in fear for the security of his family.

Lenient criminal sentencing is encouraging re-offending according to a local Senator.

Micheál Carrigy made the comments as a 43 year man was sentenced to a suspended 5 month jail term for harassing the Longford Senator and threatening his children.

David Larkin of Ardnacassa Lawns, Longford pleaded guilty last year of harassing Senator Micheál Carrigy over the course of a number of months in 2021 and 2022.

The contact ranged from Facebook messages, to texts, to a voice mail, all of which included various threats to either the Senator or his children.

Speaking to Shannonside FM News following this morning's sentencing, Senator Carrigy says he believes the punishment did not match the crime:
