Local health officials reminding people that face masks should be one-use only

Public health officials in the Shannonside Northern Sound region are advising the public that face masks are single use only.

The response to wearing coverings in enclosed spaces in public has been generally positive  - it is also advised to wear a covering in large crowds outside adn when meeting people in vulnerable groups.

However, people are being reminded of the correct etiquette in putting masks on and off, and also in ensuring that cloth face coverings need to be washed at a high temperature after each use.

Dr Breda Smyth Director of Public Health Medicine for HSE West has this advice.
