According to its 2019 report, all counties in the Shannonside Northern sound region recorded a decrease in the available size of forestry plantation last year.

However Leitrim, where forestry has been a contentious issue for a number of years saw its broadleaf tree cover decrease from 55 to 45 hectares, with no change to its coniferous forestry.

This was in contrast to Cavan where the number of hectares of coniferous forestry decreased from 252 to 130 hectares in 12 months - with broadleaf decreasing from 69 to 37 hectares.
