Counties in the Shannonside region have ranked among the lowest Leaving Cert retention rate nationally.
That's according to new figures released by the Department of Education and Youth.
The report tracks students from the 2018 entry cohort.
The data forms part of the Department's analysis of progression through second-level education.
Retention rates in individual counties can fluctuate significantly year to year due to the low cohort population in those counties.
Roscommon recorded the lowest Leaving Certificate retention rate at 86.9 per cent and 596 students
88.7 per cent and 603 students was the total in Longford.
While Leitrim saw 91.7 per cent and 466 students.
The findings are expected to inform ongoing efforts to improve student retention and educational outcomes across all regions.
