The latest JPC meeting heard worries over growing crime levels in the west Roscommon town.

Additional Garda resources are needed to tackle escalating crime issues in Ballaghaderreen.

That's according to the Roscommon Leader Partnership who are raising concerns over an increase in crime levels in the town.

In a letter to this month's meeting of the Joint Policing Committee, Roscommon Leader Partnership highlighted the need for more policing resources in Ballaghaderreen.

They say there's a growing multi-cultural population and various nationalities are now residing in the west Roscommon town.

Concerns documented in the letter relate to a rise in anti-social behaviour as well as incidents of indecent exposure.

They say inadequate housing has led to a number of volatile situations at local homes with Gardai having to respond.

The letter also says there's been an increase in the number of sex offenders living in the locality and the organisation is calling for a policy review in relation to this matter.

In response to the letter Chief Superintendent Raymond McMahon says Gardai are aware of the ongoing issues and are continuously monitoring the situation with a new Sergeant and Community Guard appointed in the last two months.

Councillor Liam Callaghan says the increase in incidents is causing concern:

"Numerous incidents in Ballaghaderreen and it varies from serious crime to minor crimes and I think there is a lot of anxiety with a lot of the local people that there is so many different groups locally and it is causing concern that the services aren't there and extra gardai and extra resources are needed."
