A Leitrim woman is recovering after receiving a deep wound to her head while observing a protest in Dublin on Saturday.

Activist Izzy O'Rourke was observing a demonstration against the wearing of face masks outside the Dail with some friends when they say they were targetted by a group shouting derogatory chants.

Ms. O' Rourke was then hit over the head causing a large gash and extensive bleeding.

Gardaí in Pearse Street are investigating the incident which is being described as an assault.

No arrests have been made, and Ms. O' Rourke says she is taking advice on the matter.
