Leitrim peace garden a significant reminder of 9/11 attacks

The garden is a popular visiting spot for those looking to honour the memory of Fr Mychal Judge.

A peace garden in Keshcarrigan dedicated to the memory of Fr Mychal Judge is regularly visited by people from the US.

On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy in New York, Lorna McCarthy from the association says people still make the visit to remember the man who was chaplain to the Fire Department in the US city.

Fr Judge, whose father was a native of Keshcarrigan, died as he was administering last rites in the lobby of the North Tower on September 11th 2001.

He had visited Keshcarrigan just a year before to research his Irish roots, and had brought back a stone from the family homestead to New York.

His sister attended the official opening of the garden in 2005, and donated the flag which had been draped over her brother's coffin.

Lorna McCarthy told the Joe Finnegan show the garden is in a very peaceful spot and is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike:
