That's the message from the National Public Health Emergency Team, which has also described people returning home from abroad for Christmas as "non-essential travel".

As speculation continues about what air travel will be allowed for people wanting to come home this Christmas, a Leitrim native in London says a lot of people there have already decided they won't be coming home.

Billy Faughan who's worked as a musician in the UK for several years says he believes most "level- headed" people have decided that it's simply not worth putting family member's health at risk.

The Leitrim native was speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning in the wake of the comments from Tánaiste Leo Varadkar saying it was too early for anyone to begin boking flights home for Christmas.
