Leitrim lagging behind on e-waste recycling

The annual report from WEEE Ireland the body charged with promoting the recycling of electrical waste shows a very low level of recycling of e-waste in Leitrim, even though it has risen significantly since last year

Figures released by the electrical waste body WEEE Ireland show a very low level of e-waste recycling in Leitrim last year compared to neighbouring counties.

The 2021 national average of the weight of e-waste recycling per person last year was 10.9 kilos, but the Leitrim figure is at just 4.7 kilos.

It contrasts with an average of 11.4 kilos recycled per person for people in Longford and 12.3 kilos per person last year in Co Roscommon.

Elizabeth O' Reilly who's head of Compliance with WEEE Ireland says while the Leitrim figure is low, they are glad to see a significant improvement on the previous year and are hopeful this will continue.
