Leitrim councilor says new National Plan must be drafted after Covid-19

A call is being made for a new National Plan to be drafted in light of the Covid-19 pandemic which will take rural Ireland more into account.

The call comes from Independent councillor Des Guckian who says the entire landscape and assumed possibilities have been drastically altered by Covid and the 2040 plan is now defunct.

Councillor Guckian raised the issue in a notice of motion at a recent meeting of Leitrim Council which calls on all political parties and Independents in the state to immediately begin work on drafting a new plan.

He says the 2040 plan which concentrated on building up services in and around large urban regions is now totally at odds with the swing towards remote working and the need for much better rural infrastructure.
