The Save Our Shannon organisation says it's determined to continue highlighting the lack of action regarding management of the river Shannon as heavy rains

The Save Our Shannon organisation says it's determined to continue highlighting the lack of action regarding management of the river Shannon as heavy rains continue to cause further land to be lost.

John Curley who farms at Clonown Athlone says fifty acres of land which he would normally be able to use for 7 months of the year have been flooded since the summer once again and he has to supplement poor silage he managed to take off the land with expensive meal products this year.

He says up to 30,000 acres of land along the river between Limerick and Cavan have been affected by the increased flooding in the last two years.

The Clonown farmer says people with land along the river are used to winter flooding but the situation is getting progressively worse and he's fearful of what will happen if some action isn't taken.

The Save Our Shannon group says they haven't been impressed with the performance of Minister Patrick Donovan since his appointment and they want to know what has happened to plans to clear pinch points along the Shannon.

John Curley says while some of his land has been flooded on almost a permanent basis, some people are also facing serious disruption as a result:
